Workcations

Workcations for freelancers, employees, the self-employed and those working with children

A workcation is a type of vacation where you take time off from your job to work remotely in another location. This could be for a few days, a week, or even longer. During this time, you may still perform the same tasks you do at work but in a different setting. You may also have the opportunity to explore the area and participate in activities that are not related to your job.

I’m so tired of not having support around holidays so now I design workcations with my little one. For the last 6 half terms and for the past 4 years, we have created lifelong memories with workcations.

  • we both get downtime, quality time, time for well-being and self-care

  • I have built-in childcare

  • we get to explore new towns and cities with one of my favourite people

  • we make learning experiences

  • I get to work on digital revenue streams

  • I get to launch remotely

  • I get to host events

  • I get to host branding shoots

  • I can hold virtual training and workshops

Sometimes just sometimes you can design your outcomes, I was able to rest, study and work.

Sure we’ve had a few tantrums. Nothing goes to plan, heck, I get tired. But choose your hard.

Whilst on the road we met a retired couple, the husband gave my son great swimming tips. The wife said, β€œwell done to you, I’ve been watching you. I wished I thought like that instead of wishing time away”.

Having a hard time working at home and need a space where you can focus and be more productive? I choose locations all over the UK,

Things to consider

The things that I look out for include;

  • amenities

  • parking

  • room service

  • safety

  • local supermarkets

  • onsite health clubs, spas, gyms and swimming pools

  • researching the area

  • currency

  • local attractions

  • activities

  • distance to your room if you have to hold little ones and carry luggage

A workcation can be beneficial for both the employer and employee. For employers, it can provide employees with an opportunity to gain new skills and perspectives while continuing to contribute to the company's success. For freelancers, the self-employed and employees, it can offer a chance to relax and recharge while still continuing to contribute their expertise in their field.
